Feeding America is the nation’s leading charity for domestic hunger-relief. Their goal is to inspire the country to help to fight against hunger and to feed America’s hungry with their national network of food banks.
Each year, their network provides meals for more than 37 million low-income people. This includes more than 14 million children and almost 3 million seniors.
They have more than 200 food bank locations with at least one in each of the 50 states, D.C. and Puerto Rico. Their annual distribution includes more than 2.5 billion pounds of food and groceries. These food banks provide food directly to those in need.
The statement of values of Feeding America includes seven main principles. They respect the worth of every individual; they hold themselves accountable for how their resources are used to achieve their mission; they collaborate with other organizations who share in their mission; they operate with a sense of urgency, understanding the terrible nature of hunger; they serve with excellence, compassion and responsiveness to create a hunger-free America; they act with integrity; and they believe that the diversity inherent in American society should also be evident in their workforce.
