The mission of Save the Children is to create lasting, positive change in the lives of children
who are in need. This is true both for children in the United States and for children around the world. They want children to grow up safe, educated, healthy, well nourished and protected in economically stable households. Their programs include training community health workers to care for newborns and children, protecting vulnerable children, helping communities in at-risk countries to prepare for natural disasters, and improving children’s health.

In 2009 alone, Save the Children responded to more than 25 emergencies, providing food, shelter and medical care to families and protecting children who were in need.
