It’s always a great feeling to watch business professionals use their free time to help the community. Recently, the R Baby Foundation was the focus of much attention, as those who love tennis, golf and bike riding came out in full force to raise money for emergency pediatric care and other services. The R Baby Foundation was started in 2006 to raise money for improved medical care for infants, particularly for those who contract viral infections with the first month of their lives.
On Sunday, April 15th at the Bare Hills Racquet & Fitness club in Baltimore, Maryland a 2012 Maryland Tennis Tournament took place for the R Baby Foundation. It was a day of tennis, lunch and fun with top local tennis pros offering instruction and tournament play. The event raised money for R Baby’s mission and allowed people to enjoy a day of tennis in the sun.
Similarly, on May 19th at the USTA National Tennis Center, a charity round-robin tournament took place for R Baby Foundation. This event included a live Calcutta Auction and players at all levels who were welcomed to enjoy tennis, lunch and fun. The tournament took in a staggering $100,000 for the non-profit and included a surprising number of top metro-area players. 20 teams competed on seven courts and included Bill Ackman, Pershing Square Capital Management chief; Barry Sternlicht, chief executive of Starwood Capital Group LLC; Scott Lebovitz, Goldman Sachs Vice President of the Merchant Banking Division; and many others.
In addition, for those who don’t enjoy rackets and tennis shoes, the R Baby Foundation recently had a number of other fundraisers. On Saturday, May 5th in Bethesda, Maryland they had a Cycle to Save Babies’ Lives event in celebration of R Baby’s 5th Anniversary. The event encouraged those present to stay active while raising funds for baby care. Then, on Friday, May 11th on Broomfield, Colorado they had the 3rd Annual R Baby Foundation Links for Life Golf Classic. This event benefited the Children’s Hospital Colorado.
Whether playing tennis, golfing or biking, all of these events were connected by the desire to help babies and the carrying showed by professionals and executives around the country.
