Reaching Out Where They Are Needed

Chabad-Lubavith, a Hasidic movement in Orthodox Judaism, reaches out to students, travelers and others around the world.  With locations in more than 1000 cities, they have branches in 70 countries to provide outreach and educational activities for Jews and people who are interested in Judaism.

Chabad of Thailand, for instance, attracts thousands of travelers each year.  As their site says, more than 100,000 Israeli citizens pass through Thailand each year, as do thousands of Jews from other locations.  They have centers in Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Koh Samui that offer a home away from home for these backpackers.

Similarly, Chabad in Rome helps travelers to find hospitality to ensure a nice Shabbat meal. In one blog by an American student who visited Italy, Josh recounts how he ended up being hosted for both lunch and dinner in Rome through Chabad.  He was amazed by the hospitality that Hai Vito Arbib and his wife showed to him and his many friends over the course of the weekend.  He described how Vito ended up taking in 13 guests on the spot and hosting them to a delicious dinner and lunch.

This coming year, Chabad will even be expanding to some very unlikely places. They are coming to Nairobi, Kenya and to Lagos, Nigeria.
