Taylor Swifts Donates to Community Food Banks in Eras Tour Cities

Taylor Swift is delighting the country with her 2023 Eras Tour – but it’s not just her music that is bringing joy to fans. Swift has been making generous donations to food banks in every city where she performs.

During a two-night stint in Detroit, Swift, age 33, made a large donation to Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan. Gleaners representative, Kristin Sokul, said, “Taylor Swift’s support of food banks across the country comes at such a critical time for so many emergency food providers — when resources are down, and need is up… The space in her heart will empower households across Southeast Michigan to live happier, healthier lives and elevate the important issue of food security so others who have the ability to help can be inspired by her example. The entire Gleaners team is so grateful for this incredible gift.”.

Swift’s donation to Denver’s Food Bank of the Rockies was enough to purchase 75,000 meals. Donations such as these are crucial – Feeding America claims that 34 million people in the US are currently dealing with food insecurity. Chief marketing officer for Food Bank of the Rockies, Aditi Desai, said, “We’ve been able to meet the increased demand thanks to the generosity of individuals like Taylor Swift. Her gift will help fuel our work across the Rockies and allow us to distribute more food to our communities. I was shocked and then thrilled by the news! We are grateful for her inspired support in answering the challenge of hunger.”

Missoula Food Bank

The Missoula Food Bank seeks, quite simply, to feed the hungry in Missoula.  That is its short-term goal.  Long-term, it is attempting to overall reduce the incidence of hunger in the neighborhood and how it impacts the entire community.  Every year, the food bank distributes over 250 tons of food (including fresh, canned, baked and baby items) to the residents in the area. Ultimately through this work, it serves around a thousand households per month.

Along with a full-time staff, the food bank is also blessed with many volunteers who work tirelessly for the organization’s efforts.  Aside from food distribution, the Missoula Food Bank has a free store; a ROOTS program for those who are home-bound or low income; a Café for kids that gives out lunches for those children that may not get a good meal during school vacations, and more.

The San Francisco Food Bank

The San Francisco Food Bank is all about feeding the hungry of San Francisco and Marin.  The charitable organization’s mission is to help people not starve, and not have to choose between rent and food or other basic necessities.  Unfortunately, this very much is the case for the people living in these areas so the San Francisco Food Bank was set up nearly 25 years ago to collect and repackage many thousands of pounds of food which it thereafter distributes to soup kitchens, grocery centers, educational programs and the elderly.

Every week, more than 200,000 people are the recipients of food from the Food Bank.  Each day, a staggering 93,000 meals are made. Thus, through its vital work, this organization links up people and food, also by working with more than 450 nonprofit partners.

The Food Bank receives food from various different sources including: grocery stores, processors and the USDA.  Sometimes food is given as it is approaching its code date; other times because it is misshapen and still other times as the company simply made too much. We have a bunch of volunteers working for us who deal with the food at our warehouse, so we save money on otherwise having to employ around 50 full-time staff members.  It is our intention to feed as many of the hungry as possible, ensuring the people of San Francisco and Marin do not go to bed starving or need to worry about where their next meal is coming from.

Football Feeds The Hungry

The Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl was played at the San Francisco AT&T Park. It raised enough money to sponsor more than 20 million meals to Feeding America. The Second Harvest Food Bank in the South Bay is a subsidiary of Feeding America.

Before the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl, the University of Nevada and Boston College teams served meals to the needy in San Francisco while dressed in their team jerseys.

The Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl took place with a cold temperature of 45 degrees. One meal was donated for every ticket sold and the game was almost sold out in spite of the cold weather.

Kentucky Branch of Feed America receives $100,000 from Wal-Mart

A corporate giant and a national charity are working together to expand a hunger relief program in thirty Kentucky counties. Wal-Mart Inc. has awarded $100, 000 in grant money to Elizabethtown-based Feeding America Kentucky’s Heartland. Feeding America will increase its BackPack Program and also the number of food items students enrolled in the program receive, according to Gary Miles, Feeding America’s executive director in Kentucky.

The Elizabethtown branch of Feeding America asked for $50,000 in order to add 630 students to the program and another $50,000 to improve the quality of food given out.

The food bags are given out in 30 of the 42 central and western Kentucky counties helped by Feeding America Kentucky’s Heartland. Each bag is packed with approximately 12 items, including cereal, milk, fruit and snacks.

The bags are given out Fridays at the end of school. They are discreetly put into students’ backpacks so that the students do not feel embarrassed in front of their friends.

This program has expanded to approximately 200 schools and serves almost , 5,000 children in the 30-county area. Each bag costs about $2 to prepare.
“Walmart has really stepped up to the plate and helped us big time,” Miles said.

Feeding America runs a “Hunger-Free Families” Campaign

There are many ways to perform good deeds and to keep them giving.  One can pay it forward to others who need help, or return a kindness or Tell 10 People.  Feeding America’s “Hunger-Free Families” campaign seeks to encourage families to reach out and Tell 10 others about families who are living with hunger in their own communities.

Hunger is a daily norm for many Americans — it is found in rural areas, urban areas, and all other regions of America.  There are 17 million families who many times don’t know where they will find their next meal. More than one-third of the households interviewed in the “Feeding America Hunger 2010 survey” said that sometimes they have no food.

“Somewhere in your own community is a parent who willingly sacrifices a meal so that his or her child can have a decent dinner,” said Vicki Escarra, CEO of Feeding America. Feeding America is trying to bring attention to his need and is currently the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization.

“We joined the campaign because we saw that so many families are going hungry, in this day and time, here in America,” said Laila Ali Conway.  Ali and her husband Curtis Conway spent a day at a Foothill Unity Center food pantry, a branch of the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. They worked with volunteers, met clients and learned about the battles of people living with hunger.  “They have kids just like we do and they have to worry about putting food on the table,” continued Ali Conway.

As the holiday season approaches, Hunger-Free Families campaign goal is to not only have people TELL 10 about the American hungry. They also want to inspire people to donate or volunteer at their local food bank.  These efforts will help provide many meals to hungry families.
